They're Back (Pocket)

Last season this group of talented artists wowed audiences with their skills in hoop-diving, Chinese pole, acrobatics, and dancing (Dominic especially).

Back Pocket was founded in 2014 after Maya went to L'Ecole Superiere des Arts du Cirque in Belgium and met Michaël and Aure— Back Pocket’s French performers. The three of them threw around the idea of starting a circus company, and Maya decided to invite Dominic and Devin, whom she grew up training with at San Francisco Circus Center, to join. Maya says they landed on their company name for its relatability, “We wanted to be a circus company accessible to all people, like the little treasures you sometimes find in the back pocket of your favorite pair of jeans.”

Following the 2019 Midnight Circus Tour, they have been touring France, Belgium, and Switzerland with their show La Vrille du Chat. They also took part in the show Urbanatix, a show with bikers, hip-hop dancers, trickers, and other circus artists, in Bochum, Germany. Most recently they took part in Sonnambula, an opera at the Royal Opera de Wallonie in Liege, Belgium.

“Last year we saw how much joy and love Midnight Circus was able to bring to the Chicago community, and we are honored to be returning for the second year in a row! We can't wait!” Maya said, “We are looking forward to joining our new circus family and the community of Chicago for another beautiful season of shows filled with love, tears, and laughter!”
