The seed was planted over a decade ago for the unlikely idea that would become Midnight Circus in the Parks.

Midnight Circus was a young, brash, troupe of performers on our first adventure together in Europe. We were enchanted with the intimate theatrical circuses we saw in the small parks and piazzas in Italy and France. The idea that families could come together in their very own communities and enjoy unique, exciting, world-class entertainment was a revelation to us. We were of the mind that you had to travel across town, fight traffic, and spend time and money parking in order to enjoy such a treat.  We said to ourselves that one day we would create such a venue in our country, in our city, in our community.

The Midnight Circus is a bit older, a bit wiser, but hopefully just as brash. That long ago idea that one day we would create an intimate theatrical circus that played to sold out audiences right in the heart of our fair city was about to become a reality…

In 2007 we got word that the playground in the park, our park was going to be downsized. It was old and in desperate need of renovation like many of the parks across Chicago. As a company we have always believed in the power of the arts too not only entertain but to promote positive social change. Here was our chance to prove that on a larger scale.

The Midnight Circus partnered with the Welles Park Advisory Council. We brought together our company of performers from around the world who now call Chicago home and created a show. The show would serve to bring the community together in their park. Volunteers from all walks of life participated, taking tickets, hanging posters, spreading the word, and ultimately making the show an unbelievable success.

The following year Midnight Circus In The Parks expanded to include Chase Park, and the results were even better. More parks, more shows, bigger audiences, and more money raised for play lots and programming.

In 2013 Midnight Circus In The Parks embarked on its biggest, boldest tour to date, encompassing parks all across Chicago and packing the little Big Top with over 20,000 people.

Now in 2016 we are celebrating 10 Incredible years of “Bringing Circus to the People”!

To date this one-of-a-kind program has raised over $850,000 for local park improvements.
